At Retrobottega, “food is the drug”.

Legendary duo Giuseppe Lo Iudice and Alessandro Miocchi have created a bold, brash and utterly fantastic destination in the heart of Rome’s centro storico, where anything goes.

The pair met at two-star ‘Il Pagliaccio’ before opening the dark and moody restaurant, wine bar and pastificio on Via D’Ascanio. Playfully push boundaries with a strong emphasis on seasonality, creativity, and traditional regional ingredients, Retrobottega became an instant hit, attracting a charming mix of local cognoscenti and international experience hunters.

Traversing culinary borders with bold and brilliant mash-ups, their Carousel menu features Retro classics like ‘Yellow Risotto, Smoked Marrow’; Alessandro’s take on ‘Saltimbocca all Romana’; ‘and ‘Panna Cotta, Black Garlic, Hazelnuts, Truffle’.

If our evening with them is anything to go by, this one is going to be a lot of fun…

We’re kicking off 2024 with Murra, a chef residency mini-series in collaboration with Rome’s Cultivar Studio bringing four of Italy’s most exciting culinary talents to London for four epic, back-to-back residencies. We’ll be working with Natoora to provide our four Murra chefs with the best seasonal produce they can get their hands on.
