Phase

As part of our ten year anniversary celebrations, design studio Relative Distance brings a month of moonlight to Carousel. Phase is a limited edition lunar night which, correct to the night’s sky, illuminates in sync with the moon.

Every element of Phase has been conceived to evoke a close connection to the moon, conceptually, aesthetically, materially and optically. Both a clock and a light, the intensity of light and opacity of the glass are carefully balanced to reveal the intricate detail of the moon’s surface. Representing constant change, innovation and renewal, Phase will be ‘resident’ in the restaurant, illuminating over 28 days and four chef’s residencies.

Phase is the first project from design studio Relative Distance, co-founded by Industrial Designer Roland Ellis and Dev Joshi, previously Associate Director of immersive artwork Rain Room at Random International. The studio explores different modes and means by which humans seek to measure and make sense of space and time.
