At Lou, in Nashville’s lesser trodden Riverside Village, Mailea Weger has transformed a charming neighbourhood house into a brunch-spot-small-plates-natural-wine-bar where the light, fresh and thoughtful dishes change with the seasons and bring together assorted influences from an amazing career spent cooking in Paris, New Orleans, NYC and LA.
Mailea fell into restaurants after ditching a career in fashion, and boy are we glad that she did. Lou‘s current menu includes ridiculously delicious-sounding things like ‘Mackerel aquachile, fresno chili water, mezcal, blood orange’; ‘Hiratake mushroom, fermented shrimp, dried Thai chili, cilantro’ and ‘Sichuan crusted rack of lamb, vanilla olive oil, shiso labneh’.
Right now Mailea and the team are in Paris, scouting sites for an imminent opening of an insouciant French sister restaurant for Lou. But first, a week with us here on Charlotte Street.
