Chishuru is the award-winning modern West African restaurant from Adejoké ‘Joké’ Bakare.
Following a string of sell-out supper clubs, self-taught chef Joké opened Chishuru in Brixton Market in 2020, serving creative, contemporary versions of traditional and lesser-known West African dishes.
Chishuru was quick to make a mark on London’s food scene thanks in equal parts to Joké’s infectious personality and her incredible, ever-evolving tasting menus, which feature the likes of ‘Ekoki’ (corn, tamarind, mushroom floss)’, ‘Kazan Ridi’ (grilled chicken, black sesame)’ and ‘Atasi’ (spiced mutton rice). Within two years of opening, the restaurant had not only earned a spot in the coveted top 100 of Estrella Damm’s National Restaurant Awards, but was also crowned Time Out’s ‘Best Restaurant in London 2022’.
Unfortunately for both Joké and her army of fans, Chishuru was forced to close its Brixton site at the end of last year. While she searches for a new space, we’re thrilled to announce that Joké will be bringing the vibrant West African flavours of Chishuru to Charlotte Street for a week at the end of February. We can’t wait.
