One of Mexico City’s essential restaurants, MALIX is the super sleek debut project of seasoned chef Alonso Madrigal.
Having worked alongside a succession of modern greats including Elena Reygadas (Rosetta), René Redzepi (Noma Mexico) and Kristian Bauman (108), Alonso opened MALIX in the über-trendy Polanco neighbourhood in 2021 and it became an instant smash hit
Derived from the Mayan word for ‘street dogs’ and roughly translating into Spanish as ‘raceless’, MALIX (ma-li[sh]) is a nod to the way Alonso loves to cook – rooted in local Mexican ingredients and traditions, but generously peppered with influences from a multitude of different cultures from around the world. Working hand-in-hand with a carefully-selected community of local, sustainable farmers and producers, Alonso creates highly imaginative, seasonally-changing menus filled with big flavours, innovative ingredient pairings and techniques picked up through years of travelling. Highlights include impossibly delicious-sounding dishes like his ‘Chanterelles, Mussel Escabeche & Frijoles Caldosas with Flatbreads & Chintextle Butter’; ‘Squash Tamal, XO, Watercress’; and signature ‘Duck, Malix Mole, Beetroot’.
We’re hyped to be welcoming one of Mexico City’s biggest hitters into the Carousel kitchen for five nights of bold, eclectic cooking that’s not to be missed.
