Santa Monica’s hottest neighbourhood seafood joint, Crudo e Nudo is the pop-up-turned-restaurant success story by chef Brian Bornemann and partner Leena Culhane.
After meeting in 2020 and bonding over a love of surfing, sustainability, and simple, honest food, the pair launched Crudo e Nudo as a series of sell-out supper clubs and pop-ups, showcasing the freshest local fish and seafood they could get their hands on. By the following year, the couple had secured their first bricks-and-mortar site, transforming a tiny former juice bar into one of the city’s most popular restaurants almost overnight.
From their dainty space on Main Street, the duo serve picture-perfect plates of seasonally-changing, sustainably-caught delights, cleverly brought to life by Brian’s imaginative, globally-inspired flavour combinations. Smash hits like his ‘rockfish crudo, mandarin oil, white soy, urfa biber, chives’; ‘tuna tartare toasts, onion confit, sesame, yuzu’; and ‘fried fish collar with charred lemon, citrus vinaigrette & herbs’ have catapulted this local favourite to critical success, placing it firmly on the Santa Monica food map.
