Following an award-winning year, Mieke, is bringing her work to the public with her first solo show at the Carousel Next Door Gallery. Her exhibition ‘Still’ will present images of the natural world suspended, as 21st Century Still Lifes.
STILL, presents powerful images of the natural world, suspended. Inspired by 17th Century Dutch Master Painters, fine art photographer Mieke Douglas, experiments with modern techniques to create 21st Century still lifes with digital images. Her work moves between fact and fiction and constantly challenges the boundaries of photography and art. Two images, Mesa and Sierra, chosen by Jock McFayden for his Menagerie at the Royal Academy of Arts, will be shown here for the first time since the Summer Exhibition 2019.
Mieke is a self-taught, Canadian and Dutch photographer who looks at ordinary things differently. Her powerful images strip down the unnecessary and focus on simple lines and moments of movement and stillness. Her captivating style has won her awards such as the Minimalist Photography Award 2019, the British Photography Award 2019 and a Julia Margaret Cameron Award 2019.
